The Gospel Companion

What is The Gospel Companion?

  • We use this phrase to refer to someone who walks alongside you, offering Gospel support, encouragement, and mentorship on your journey. A Gospel Companion is someone who helps you understand and apply the teachings of the Gospel in your daily life as a friend, a family member, or someone in your faith community who plays a significant role in providing guidance. A Gospel Companion prays with and for our homeschool students and is a source of strength in your faith journey.

What Is The Gospel?

  • The word "Gospel" comes from the Old English "god spell," which means "good news." In Christianity, the Gospel refers to the central message of Jesus Christ, His life, death, and resurrection, and the salvation and hope He offers to all who believe in Him. The first four books of the New Testament, Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John, contain the Gospel and are referred to as the Gospels.

  • The Gospel begins with acknowledging that God loves all of humanity profoundly and desires a personal relationship with us. He is not looking for a reason to punish anyone, nor does the Creator wish to eliminate us from His sight. He plans to be our companion for eternity. The Gospel teaches that salvation is a gift received through trust in Jesus. It is not something we can earn by doing good works. It is a relationship with the Savior, Creator, and God.

  • A companion accompanies or spends time with another, sharing experiences by offering emotional support and friendship. A companion can be anyone who walks alongside you, sharing the joys and challenges of your trust and providing encouragement through prayerful support. Companionship is essential to Christian fellowship, as it helps us grow in our faith and understanding of God's Word. The Bible shows examples of "companionship" through stories such as David and Jonathan, Paul and Timothy, or Jesus and His disciples. These relationships exemplify the beauty of mutual support and encouragement in a faith-filled community.

  • Although Gospel Companion can perform marriages, baptize members, conduct funerals, teach Biblical beliefs, and fulfill other traditions and rites like any other church, that is not our principal function.

Gospel Companion's prime directive is to provide spiritual training for

families and anyone interested in knowing God's grace and love more fully.

Fundamental Beliefs of Gospel Companion:

God is love.

1 John 4:16  God is love, and whoever abides in love abides in God, and God abides in him.

In the beginning, God created everything perfectly without defects.

Genesis 1:1 "In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth." And in verse 25b, "And God saw that it was good." It was perfect in every way, for God does not make any mistakes.

God created humans to reason, comprehend, create, understand, and love.

Isaiah 1:18 "Come now, let us reason together, says the Lord: though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they are red like crimson, they shall become like wool.

Sin is anything that works against God’s laws and removes us from harmony with Him.

1 John 3:4 “Sin is the transgression of the law.” To sin is to break your connection with God's love.

Evil and death result from a rebellion and a lack of God's goodness and love.

1 John 4:16 So we have come to know and to believe the love that God has for us. God is love, and whoever abides in love abides in God, and God abides in him.

Those who follow the rebellion will become ashes when God creates everything new.

Ecclesiastes 12:7  Then shall the dust return to the earth as it was, and the spirit shall return unto God who gave it.

Eternal life is a gift from God.

Romans 6:23  For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

The Creator came as a man, who we know as Jesus, to restore things to His original plan.

Colossians 1:16-17 For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him: and he is before all things, and by him all things consist.

Salvation is only possible through trusting in God’s love.

Ephesians 2:8-9 “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—not by works, so that no one can boast.”

God desires our trust and friendship even more than obedience and gifts.

1 Samuel 15:22 “Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to hearken than the fat of rams.”

Trusting God allows the Spirit of God to reproduce Christ's love in us.

1 John 4:16  “And we have known and believed the love that God hath for us. God is love, and he that dwelleth in love dwelleth in God, and God in him.”

When Jesus returns, there will be a bodily resurrection of the saints.

1 Thessalonians 4:16 “For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first.”

The governments of the world rule through force, coercion, and lies.

1 Peter 2:13-14  “Submit yourselves for the Lord’s sake to every human authority: whether to the emperor, as the supreme authority, or to governors, who are sent by him to punish those who do wrong and to commend those who do right.”

God governs through truth, freedom, and love.

Galatians 5:13, 14  For, brethren, ye have been called unto liberty; only use not liberty for an occasion to the flesh, but by love serve one another. For all the law is fulfilled in one word, even in this: Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself.
